If you've only ever used the old school green and white crosshatch style foam tape, you're in for a treat - this stuff holds a hundred times better, and it can withstand a shocking amount of force. This is intended as a permanent adhesive, but if you need to remove it, it is possible with a lot of patience - just work really slowly, and expect the surfaces will be damaged under the tape if they are porous or have a finish. It's especially good at adhering stuff to glass or plastics.The reason I'm docking a star is that this specific roll of VHB is of questionable and mysterious origin. My understanding is that 3M sells this as 3M VHB for industrial clients and as Scotch Extreme in home improvement stores - but this roll is mixing and matching the brands, with VHB on the tape itself but Scotch on the yellow core. The typeface and artwork also seems incorrect on the yellow core, and the core was really roughly cut with what appears to be a bandsaw leaving a few small bits of cardboard residue on the sides of the tape... not what I would expect from a precision manufacturer like 3M.The tape itself seems correct and the brand/artwork on the red backing seems perfect, so my guess is that this roll has been repackaged by a third party from a large industrial roll of VHB into smaller reels for retail sale. That makes sense and it doesn't necessarily scare me off from purchasing this product, but I'm not sure what the long-term effects of repackaging would be on the adhesive.The tape on this reel seems to work exactly as expected, despite the odd format. The price is certainly reasonable for the length you receive, especially compared to what you'd pay at a home improvement store. I wouldn't use this roll for anything where you're pushing the limits of the tape in an industrial setting based on 3M's specs, but if you're using it for general crafting and home repairs, I wouldn't hesitate to save a bundle by purchasing this roll.I ordered this double sided tape to secure a few framed posters and a somewhat heavy cork board to the wall and all the items have secured well without un-sticking. The tape can peel off paint when being removed however, which is expected since it is heavy duty. The tape texture is stretchy and putty like and can be readjusted if placed incorrectly, depending on the surface of the item. The only noticeable drawback was that it is difficult to take off the red protector plastic if you have short nails!I love the 3M removable strips. I have shelves and hooks and other things using those. I recently acquired a ring screwless mounting plate, and it uses this particular product. It held on great after I let it cure until I removed it because life changes. I have an Apple TV mount that attaches to the back of my TV. It fell off twice and I decided not to use it anymore. But life changes, and I wanted to use it, so I used this to stick it to the back of my TV again. I was afraid that it would detach because of the heat from the TV, like the tape that came with the mount. But that’s not been the case. I let it cure for 12 hours before I place the Apple TV on it; it’s been three weeks and it’s still there, no problems. I also used it to replace the adhesive on a lid mount where I keep my instant pot lid and it has also not giving up at all, whereas the original adhesive fell within two weeks. The most important part about 3M adhesives is that you have to press it for at least 30 seconds, evenly through the whole surface, and let it cure for several hours. The heavier it is, the more hours. I love their stuff. I’ll pretty much buy anything 3M puts out there. They never let me down.ITEM: Amkurson store’s 3M brand VHB Double Sided TapePRICE: $13.89 for the roll (185-inches x 1-inch)I actually use 3-M brand VHB tape in my business, which includes securing metal graphics to walls and wood surfaces for award and recognition products. VHB is one of the most aggressive tapes available. And I should add that in my home workshop, and just today, I used this VHB tape to ‘re-tape’ the camera mounts for a front and rear dash camera system. The OEM tape was also VHB, but in a thinner foam center configuration. But the utility of this slightly thicker foam provided a very similar holding function.The reason the foam is available in thinner and thicker gage, is that thicker foam can conform to more irregular surfaces. And the thinner foam is best for smooth surfaces like auto-glass or finished woods and metal. More foam allows the tape to fill those 'nooks and crannies' in the irregular surfaces like a painted and textured wall. Less foam as the adhesive-carrier, the less movement and more rigid will be the hold.Price on this product was reasonable. And frankly, in my home shop I’m only cutting small squares of this tape for most applications. One small roll like this can last a long time. And the convenience of ordering via Amazon Prime adds to the ‘good value’ quotient of this product. Along with other adhesive products, I highly recommend VHB tape, even in a 15-foot roll, to be included with your other mending and taping products.
